Bullšs Eye Editing
We offer two levels of editing: a Basic Service and an Advanced Service. In both cases, we work closely with our clients. In both services, your material will be read twice, typically three times. All our edits provide a horizontal and vertical treatment of the text that locates and reverses trouble spots from how you convey your message to what it says in the first place. We correct surface or copy mistakes (spelling, grammar, usage) while also reviewing and revising content to improve clarity. The depth of our content work will be determined by the service you request.
In this service, we correct for errors in spelling, punctuation, grammar, diction, syntax, and paragraph unity. We provide a fundamental review of content to ensure your meaning is clear, your argument balanced and your ideas well supported with accurate information; this may involve minor rewriting in places. Our interest is to enhance, to clarify or otherwise to improve your writing. In this service, however, we do not offer dramatic alterations, major rewrites or penetrating analysis of your argument or ideas. We leave what you have written more or less intact in terms of content and do not query your judgments too rigorously. We may, however, discover areas of ambiguity, problems with logic etc. that we could not possibly correct. We will point out where these problems exist and offer advice about how to improve them.
Our Basic Service provides a layer of substantive editing. You may want a deeper edit of your material and may wish to use our Advanced Service. In addition to cleaning up the surface features of your writing such as grammar and diction, we will scrutinize your text for problems with ideas, thesis, logic, tone, organization, transitions and conclusion. In the Advanced Service, we do a close evaluation of the material and make changes to improve the document. Obviously, we cannot generalize about the amount of critique and correction we provide since each editing job is unique. From experience, however, we can predict that some rewriting will likely be involved as well as some correspondence with you to clarify issues within the document.

- Contact us via email and briefly outline your assignment. Please indicate the editing service you require.
- We will respond immediately and indicate whether we can undertake the edit. If we agree to edit your material, we will email you an Assignment Information Sheet that we need returned along with your document. The AIS provides us with context, which in turn enables us to correct your material as effectively as possible.
- After we have your document and the AIS, we will send you an approximate completion date and fee estimate.
- If you are happy with, and agree to, fee and completion schedules, we will send you a simple contract and then perform the edit.
Comments
The amount of editing work required on a document varies from author to author. No need to worry on this point, however. Our aim is to convert whatever you send us into a thoroughly readable document. Obviously, the fewer problems we find, the less time we need to spend editing your document. So it is best to send us material that you feel is ready for a professional edit.
